Forge Learning / Activities
Shared by both apps

How kids practice — the activities.

Every lesson is built from a handful of short, multisensory activities. In the family app they're woven into each mission; in Classroom a teacher can also assign any of them directly.

The core lesson arc

Every mission follows the same shape.

1

Stoke the Fire warm-up review

A warm-up that reviews previously learned letter sounds by feeding the right "coals" into the forge.

2

New Ore explicit teaching

The explicit introduction of a new letter, sound, or rule, with its keyword anchor and a short "I do / we do / you do" beat.

3

Commission connected reading

Read a decodable sentence to fill a customer's order.

4

Reveal & the Story Vault the reward

The reward: a forged artifact and, at region milestones, a new decodable storybook to read.

Practice activities

Twelve ways to practice — all teacher-assignable.

🔥

Sound review

Match letters to their sounds to stoke the forge — a fast sound-symbol warm-up.

👂

Listen game

Hear a sound and choose the ore (letter/grapheme) that makes it.

✍️

Write it

Form the letter by tracing with finger or Apple Pencil — multisensory handwriting.

⚒️

Build words

Forge CVC and pattern words from individual sound tiles.

🔗

Word chains

Change one sound at a time (cat → cot → cog) to hear how sounds map to letters.

⛰️

Vowel Valley

Sort words by their vowel sound.

🗂️

Sorting Table

Sort words by spelling pattern (e.g., which team spells the sound).

🪙

Real or Fool's Gold

Decide if a word is real or a nonsense word — pure decoding, no memorization.

Speed Forge

A gentle timed fluency read to build automaticity.

🔲

Sound Boxes

Segment a word into its sounds using Elkonin boxes.

🪓

Split it

Divide a longer word into syllables.

🧩

Rune Forge

Snap prefix, root, and suffix tiles together — morphology as crafting.

Plus spelling quests and the recording booth

Spelling quests (dictation: hear a word, write it, then use it in a sentence) and a recording booth where a teacher or parent can record letter sounds and words in their own voice.
