The short version

Students never sign in and we collect nothing about them. Teachers sign in only so we can check the school's license. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't use analytics trackers.

Students

Reading Forge Classroom is designed so that children provide no personal information. A student profile is a first name (or nickname) and a cartoon avatar, created by the teacher and stored on school-controlled devices. Student activity in the app (letters practiced, words built, progress and rewards) is stored on the teacher's device and exchanged directly between school devices over the school's local network, encrypted in transit. It is not transmitted to Forge Learning Technologies or to any third party. When a student finishes using a shared iPad, their working copy is erased from that device. Because no personal information is collected from children, there is no child account to delete — teachers can erase any student's progress from within the app at any time.

Teachers

Teachers may optionally sign in with a Google or Apple account. We receive the teacher's email address, and we record basic service usage for that email (a count of sign-ins and the date last seen) solely to (a) verify the school's license and (b) administer licenses — for example, telling a school how many of its teachers use the product. Teacher authentication is provided by Firebase Authentication and license records are stored in Google Cloud Firestore (Google LLC, United States).

What we do NOT do

No advertising. No sale, rental, or sharing of data for commercial purposes. No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. No collection of student personal information, at all. No use of your data to train AI models.

Children's privacy (COPPA) and student records (FERPA)

The app collects no personal information from children, so no parental consent mechanism is required under COPPA. Where a school purchases licenses, Forge Learning Technologies acts as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA to the limited extent of teacher license data, governed by our Data Processing Agreement.

Data deletion

Email forge@forgelearningtech.com from your account address and we will delete your teacher account and usage records within 30 days.

Changes

We will post any changes here with a new effective date and email licensed schools about material changes.
